Identifying genuine turnaround candidates

Identifying, diagnosing and appraising viable turnaround candidates is a critical skill for secured lenders, potential investors and restructuring and turnaround professionals.

Not all businesses in financial distress can be restored to a sustainable and profitable state. In this course you will learn how to diagnose and evaluate potential targets for turnaround. You will gain a working knowledge of how to detect the underlying causes of the decline and understand how to realistically appraise a candidate for turnaround.

A variety of models and tools are introduced, which function as ‘lenses’ providing deeper insights than typical financial analysis. They are low cost, can be applied with rapidly, and are useful for diagnostic as well as strategic and prioritising purposes.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Assess if a distressed company has prospects for recovery.
  • Apply high impact and agile tools of qualitative and quantitative tools of diagnosis.
  • Identify which essential ‘ingredients’ will be required for a given turnaround.

Prerequisites

We recommend you have at least one year of on-the-job experience prior to attending this course.
