Bankrupt Pharmacists - National Health Amendment (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Bill 2019

01/12/2018

In November 2018, ARITA participated in confidential consultation on proposed amendments to the National Health Act 1953 to ensure the supply of pharmaceutical benefits following bankruptcy or external administration by providing a mechanism by which an appointee may take control of the approval to supply pharmaceutical benefits notwithstanding that it may not be ordinarily considered property in the administration.

The specific nature of the consultation, which included a discrete group of ARITA members with experience in this area, was subject to confidentiality agreements however the efforts and contribution of ARITA has been specifically recognised by the Minister for Health, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, during the second reading of the National Health Amendment (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Bill 2019 (Bill).

ARITA recognises and thanks those members who assisted with this submission and will continue to monitor the progress of the Bill, which is currently before the House of Representatives.
