Performance reviews under the spotlight in ARITA Mentoring Program panel
22/05/2026
ARITA Mentoring Program participants recently explored how to make performance reviews more meaningful during a panel session facilitated by This Friday and hosted at the Cor Cordis offices in Melbourne, with online access available via Teams.
Moderated by Julie Scardamaglia, Partner at This Friday, the session featured Rachel Burdett RITF, Partner at Cor Cordis, Allan Kawalsky RITF, Partner at Turks Legal, and Christopher Sequeira RITP, Partner at Wexted Advisors.
The discussion challenged the idea that performance management is only about underperformance, instead framing it as an ongoing process that supports development at every career stage. Panellists spoke about what high performance looks like day to day, how technical capability should be balanced with behaviours such as collaboration, leadership and emotional intelligence, and what leaders really notice in emerging practitioners.
The panel also explored how early career practitioners can better prepare for feedback conversations, advocate for their own development, and seek guidance when formal review structures are limited.
A practical discussion on navigating dips in performance highlighted the importance of honesty, reflection and taking clear steps to improve, while also recognising when a role may no longer align with a person’s strengths or goals.
