Cryptocurrencies & insolvency & end of year drinks

Cryptocurrency is increasingly likely to form part of the assets that an IP will be required to deal with upon appointment so consideration needs to be given to identifying that particular class of assets, preserving their value for the benefit of the insolvent estate, realising the assets in a volatile market and distributing proceeds to creditors based on their particular rights.

Lee Pascoe, Special Counsel and Jenna Scott, Senior Associate at Norton Rose Fulbright, will briefly introduce cryptocurrency, tokens and ICOs (in the context of issued tokens) and consider what steps an IP in Australia needs to take in relation to such digital assets following an appointment.

Adam Smith, Special Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright, will also briefly touch on the taxation requirements in relation to cryptocurrencies.

They will also consider the role and operation of digital currency exchanges and look at what we can learn from some real world examples of collapses of those entities in other jurisdictions including how the digital assets were dealt with and some of the issues that arose in those insolvency proceedings.

Our final Forum of the year will be an evening presentation followed by networking drinks and canapes, for restructuring, insolvency and turnaround professionals to celebrate the end of another successful year.
